The Chevy II, or Nova as it would come to be sold as, was a compact line produced by General Motors over five generations. It was this line’s Super Sport, or SS, that really earns it spot on this list. The performance package of the Nova featured 295 hp (220 kW) 350 cu in (5.7 l) V8 engine along with a heavy-duty suspension and other performance hardware. Optional engines included two versions of the big-block 396 cu in (6.5 l) V8 rated at 350 hp (260 kW) and 375 hp (280 kW). It has the distinction of being one of the smallest muscle cars ever produced by Detroit. The SS version was available from 1968 to 1972. A total of 17,564 Chevy Nova SS’s were produced in 1968.
