47. Ford Taurus 1986-present United States

The Taurus was one of the Ford Motor Company’s most anticipated cars. It ushered in a new era of Ford, moving the company into front-wheel drive vehicles. The Taurus was a bit more rounded than most mid-sized sedans, a measure taken for aerodynamics which helped it achieve new fuel efficiency standards enacted by the United States government. The original Taurus was a revolutionary milestone for the industry. American manufacturing changed directions and followed the Taurus’s success. Chrysler and General Motors began to design rounder, more aerodynamic sedans to compete with Ford. Originally available in a V6 or an inline four cylinder, the Taurus would offer V8 performance variant from 1989-1999, and 2010-present, in the Taurus SHO. In 2008 Ford repackaged the Taurus as a full sized sedan.
