7. 1955 Ford Thunderbird

The first generation of the Ford Thunderbird is a two seat convertible that was made by Ford between 1955 and 1957. Rather than try and rival the European sports cars that were being imported into the United States, Ford created a new market entirely around the Thunderbird, the personal luxury car. The Thunderbird had strong performance, but the main focus was on comfort rather than speed. The Thunderbird was unveiled in 1954 at the Detroit Auto Show on February 20th. When it went on sale it sold quickly, with 3500 orders placed in the first ten days. Only 10,000 were planned to be produced, but 16,155 were sold in 1955. Equipped with a V8 engine, the Thunderbird was capable of 110-120 mph.
