8. Ford Capri

The Ford Capri is a fastback coupe built by Ford between 1969 and 1986. It was designed by Philip T. Clark, one of the main designers of the Ford Mustang. Using components from the Ford Cortina, the Capri was meant to be the European equivalent of the Ford Mustang. It was a highly successful vehicle for Ford, selling nearly 1.9 million units throughout it’s production life. The Capri was introduced in 1969 at the Brussels Motor Show. Originally the vehicle was going to be named the Colt, but Ford was unable to secure the name because it was owned by Mitsubishi. To make the Capri affordable over a broad spectrum of buyers, Ford offered various engine choices in the Capri. The engines ranged from a 1.3 liter four-cylinder all the way to a 5.0 liter V-8.
