12. 1968 Ford Escort

Before the Escort came to America it was a popular car in Europe. The Escort made it’s debut at the Brussels Motor Show in 1968. Replacing the Anglia, the Escort was a commercial success in several parts of Europe, but was most popular in the UK. By June 1974, two million Escorts had been sold. The Escort had a rear-wheel drive system and a four-speed manual transmission. It was also the first Ford to use a rack-and-pinion steering system. The first generation Escort was a successful and popular rally car, eventually becoming one of the most popular rally cars of all time. Ford’s team was near unbeatable throughout the late 60’s and early 70’s. Even today enthusiasts enjoy modding and upgrading the first generation of the Ford Escort.
