14. Automatic Parallel Parking Technology is Here Today

For those who cannot wait for Google and the major automotive manufacturers to release their fully automated vehicles, fully automated parallel parking technology is here today. Bosch plans to release the company’s fully automated parking system on their vehicles in 2015. This system will let drivers get out of the vehicle and trigger the autonomous parking feature via smartphone. The auto will be able to accelerate, decelerate, calculate its maneuvers, check the surrounding area, and brake all on its own. Although this feature seems small, it is a big deal when compared to previously developed autonomous technologies deployed on consumer autos. The updates to the technology represent a significant leap from the Toyota Intelligent Parking Assist technology that first debuted on the Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle in 2003.
