5. The Google Car Does Not Have Pedals or a Steering Wheel

Google has made a significant shift in their self-driving car research and built a prototype based on the company’s own design. The new version of the Google car no longer has a steering wheel, brake pedal, or accelerator. The company decided to make this big change in the design of the car in order to make the driverless automobile feel less intimidating or threatening to consumers. Google believes that drivers will be less tempted to take control of the auto when approaching a busy intersection or if traffic is thick if they do not have a steering wheel to grab. The company does include an emergency stop button in the new auto that will bring the vehicle to an immediate stop if the driver believes they are in danger or have simply had enough of the autonomous behavior of the vehicle.
