4. Google is the Sole Driverless Car Developer

In the United States, Google gets the majority of the press coverage for the company’s self-driving car developments. The company originally publicized testing with existing automotive brands to include Toyota Priuses and Lexus SUVs. More recently, the Internet Company announced that it has created the company’s own vehicle intended to compete with automotive manufacturers in the near term. Although the design is uniquely Googles, major automotive manufacturers are also conducting research and development in the driverless car market. BMW and Audi are two of the major car companies who are investing in the technology and have demonstrated test rides in the past year. Most auto companies see the driverless auto space as a significant growth opportunity in the coming years which should help keep the overall costs for consumers down as cars come to market with the technology in the coming years.
