4. Follow-up with Dealerships on Weekend Evenings

A great technique for negotiating with car dealerships is to follow-up with the dealership on either Saturday or Sunday evening approximately one to two hours before they close. Depending on how business has been going, the sales manager may be under pressure to make one more sale for the day, and you just might benefit from this external pressure. If you are patient, stick to your original offer and do not be afraid to walk away from the dealership if they are unwilling to deal with you. This follow-up can be done either via the phone or in-person depending on your personal preferences. If the salesperson is unwilling to work with you on the price, then your offer might be below the price point that they are allowed to sell you the car. This is also a good time to check with the sales manager to ensure they really can’t meet your price.
