9. Be Prepared to Walk Away

One of the hardest techniques for negotiating with car dealerships for an eager shopper is being willing to walk away from the deal if the salesperson is not working with you. Some recommend taking a hard stance on your price, and to walk away immediately after the dealer will not meet your price to avoid wasting more of your time. Others will recommend that you reserve this tactic to the point that they refuse to start budging on the negotiation. Either way, nothing will send a message more clearly to a car dealers than your willingness to walk out of their store. Many salespeople will worry that they are going to lose your business to either another dealership…or even worse, someone else at the dealership on a later date. When employing this tactic, ensure you leave your contact information behind so that they can call you in the event the store can meet your price.
