13. Never Provide a Deposit until the Deal is Complete

A proven technique to keep yourself protected against car dealerships is to never provide a deposit check on a new car purchase until you have finalized the deal. Once you hand over a check, the dealership has a good amount of leverage over you in the event the deal does not proceed the way that you want it to. Many times, a high-pressured sales technique by some is to make you feel like you need to give them a deposit early in the car negotiating process in order to prove that you are serious about buying the car. All this does; however, is let the dealership hold you ‘hostage’ since they have your hard earned money in their hands, and you do not have a finalized deal.
