Two men wind up paired together for a trip from New York to Chicago. Neal, played by Steve Martin, needs to get home for Thanksgiving Dinner. He and Del end up sharing a mishap filled journey as their plane is rerouted and they take to alternative methods to reach Chicago. After the flight they board a train, then a bus, then attempt to rent When Neal is unable to get a rental car, Del saves the day by picking him up in his—however the pair are nearly killed when Del crashes the car. His misplaced cigarette then sets the car aflame. The two finally reach Chicago in the back of a milk truck. The film stands as a grim warning of the nightmares that travelers can find themselves in.
