4. Due Date

Due Date is a more recent, cruder Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. No, really… Instead of John Candy we have Zach Galifianakis who is uncouth and annoying who is paired with Robert Downey Junior playing Steve Martin’s role as the up-tight man who most get home to his family. Only in this movie, the grumpy agitated traveler has to get home to see the birth of his first child, and Galifianakis plays more an emotionally disturbed individual than Candy did in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Despite its revisiting well-trodden turf, the film is quite hilarious. RDJ and Galifianakis play off of each other well. I will say that Galifianakis’s character crashes his rental car in a much more fantastic manner than Candy did in PT&A. You find yourself doubting two men could actually survive such a wreck.
