8. Thelma and Louise

Two girls tired of their relationships head off on a road trip with disastrous consequences in a beautiful 1966 Ford Thunderbird convertible. At first the trip is liberating, but soon a turn of events leads them to be fugitives from the law. They shoot and kill a man who attempts to rape Thelma. Soon the two scofflaws find themselves robbing truckers and blowing up tanker trucks. When the law finally catches up with them, they decide that no one will believe them and going to prison isn’t for them. They hold hands and drive that beautiful car off the Grand Canyon. It’s an emotional film—watching the car sail to its eminent demise chokes me up every time.
