9. Dodge Journey

A “poor” rating in the small overlap front test earned the Dodge Journey a low safety rating. The driver’s space was seriously compromised by intruding structure. Upper intrusion measured 22 cm at the instrument panel and 18 cm at the upper hinge panel. The steering column was pushed back 12 cm towards the driver, and the door sill was pushed in laterally 9cm. The parking brake pedal was pushed in 22 cm and the lower hinge pillar intrusion was measured at 21 cm. Measurements from the dummy indicated injuries to the left hip, left knee, and right lower leg were all possible in a crash of this severity. The left lower leg of the dummy was gouged and torn by the parking brake pedal. The dummy’s head barely contacted the front airbag, and the side curtain airbag failed to deploy.
