1. National Lampoon’s Vacation

This legendary comedy directed by the late Harold Ramis and starring Chevy Chase pitted everyman Clark Griswold against the world as he fights a string of mishaps and bad luck to take his family on a cross country trip to a California amusement park. That ugly car the family drove was created especially for the film, the Wagon Queen Family Truckster. It was based on a 1979 Ford LTD County Squire. The creation was meant to lampoon American cars of the late 70’s, and it did so quite well. The car does survive Griswold’s jumping it (after some repairs) and the roof rack proved handy for tying their Aunt to the roof when she dies en route to California.
