The racing car was first introduced at the Paris Auto Show in 1953, and the car was designed to ride extremely close to the ground in order to reduce its overall efficient for racing. The car was a rarity for its day showing a capability of being able to be driven on the street as well as race without significant changes or modifications needing to be made to the vehicle. The 1956 edition of the Spyder would see the company introduce a lighter and more rigid spaceframe chassis.
