Auction price: $10,340,000

On August 21, 2011 a 1931 Duesenberg Model J Long-Wheelbase Coupe was sold for $10,340,000 USD by Gooding & Company in Pebble Beach, California. The auto is one of the most expensive cars sold at auction. There were less than 500 of the Duesenberg Model J cars built between 1928 and 1936, and the auto originally cost $17,000 in 1931 (equivalent to buying 50 Model A Ford cars at the time). There have only been five owners of the vehicle before its sale in 2011 since the original owner of the car, and it only had approximately 12,500 miles on the odometer on the day that it was sold at auction.
