3. 2010 Chevrolet Equinox Crossover

The Chevy Equinox combines design elements from the Chevy Malibu sedan and the Chevy Traverse, a larger crossover model, but includes a choice of more fuel efficient engines. The 182-horsepower, 2.4-liter engine receives an estimated 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, improving fuel economy by 33 percent over the 2009 model. The 264-horsepower, 3-liter V-6 achieves an estimated 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The six-speed automatic transmission further maximizes fuel economy, and the electronic stability and traction controls improve safety and handling. Six air bags protect passengers. The Equinox offers a more flexible interior with the MultiFlex rear seat. This seat can be moved forward or backward by as much as eight inches to improve legroom for passengers or increase rear cargo space. Drivers have 10 inches of room for the power-adjustable seat and the steering wheel that tilts and telescopes. In cold weather, the smart remote not only starts the engine but also the climate controls and the optional heated seats.
