14. Ford Explorer SSV

The Ford Explorer is one of the most popular SUVs produced of all time. Ford produces a special services vehicle (SSV) that is only available for purchase by fire departments, law enforcement, and EMS agencies. The police variant of the automobile includes special provisions for installation of radios, sirens, and light bars as well as a customer paint job available in two tones for police departments who require this feature. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) uses the current generation of Ford Explorer Police Interceptor Utility since it meets the department’s requirements for payload not met by competing Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge models. The SSV edition of the vehicle uses the 3.7 liter, Ford Cyclone V-6 that comes with the Ford Mustang and F-150 models of auto. Starting in 2014, Ford has made the 365 HP, EcoBoost V6 engine available for law enforcement to choose as an option in the auto.
