4. GM EV1

The GM EV1 was an example of a car that failed to live up to public expectations primarily due to bad timing. As one of the first eco-friendly automobiles to appear on the market and the first by GM, the company was setting the original standard for the rest of the automotive industry to beat. Technically speaking, the batteries on the automobile were not advanced enough to support the promises made by the marketers, and the infrastructure to support electric cars just simply did not exist yet in the United States. Tesla would ultimately fill the auto niche that the EV1 was poised to take in the American electric market; however, as the company ultimately ceased production of the car.
